When Champ came to SAFE it was obvious that he had had a hard time living on the streets. He is only young but the rough lifestyle and lack of proper nutrition had taken a bit of a toll on him & he looked scruffy and his coat and skin were not in very good condition. It almost seemed like he had been picked on by other cats and had been forced to stick up for himself.
Champ has FIV, a condition probably passed on to him when he was defending himself in a street fight. FIV is often much misunderstood. We can give you an information sheet which may help you to understand FIV – but to put it into perspective you can’t tell cats have it and it doesn’t affect their lives in any major way. Champ requires no ongoing medication and if someone steps up to care for him he can put the past behind and look forward to a long, happy, healthy life.
Initially Champ was overwhelmed when he came to SAFE and this may happen when he is adopted so we think that he needs to go to a home without young children. However once settled he is super affectionate and really friendly, welcoming any attention and responding by rubbing his face on your hands – he is a real sweetie, and a favourite amongst volunteers. We think this boy has earned the right to start a new life surrounded by love in a safe home where he doesn’t have to worry about surviving or where the next meal is coming from.
A home where he can at last relax. Every cat deserves that…
