” I fell in love with this beautiful girl the moment I saw her because her green eyes seemed to look straight into my soul.
Honey was very scared of everything and everyone and I wanted to help her so I started spending time at the end of my cleaning shift just sitting in front of her suite with the door open. After a few weeks she got used to me simply being there, I was able to rest my hand next to her and tempt her with treats and she started to respond. I felt I could do more so I offered to take her home but even there progress was not immediate and and it took Honey a few months to become comfortable. Eventually she allowed me to pat her and I cried with happiness when she finally approached me and rubbed herself against my hand on Mother’s Day!
Honey now does all the normal cat things – zoomies, cuddles, playtime, sleeping on my bed, jumping on my desk… She is still unsure about being picked up and she is still timid around strangers, but together we will defeat these fears too. I have decided Honey is my cat and she will stay with me for good. I hope that sharing our story might inspire other people to give a rescue cat a chance. While the road to trust is more difficult, the love and bond you develop is soo deep, that it’s worth the effort.”
