When 9 year old Harper first came into foster care, she spent all her days in her carrier, only sneaking out when food was available and the carers were on the other side of the room.
Fast forward 6 weeks and now Harper spends all day sitting behind the carer’schair – sleeping, playing, or asking for more food! Having no teeth definitely doesn’t slow her appetite.
She is still tentative but the carer can slowly approach her and gently pat on her head. After the first pat, she remembers how much she loves pats! She purrs and kneads while she sits patiently waiting for more pats. In fact she has become quite the lap cat recently. During the last few weeks she has spent every evening on the carers lap.
She currently plays on her own – ball toys are her favourite, with shoelace and mouse toys close seconds, rolling around and chasing them around. The hope is with more time, she will engage in play with the carers. Harper is very vocal and will call out when she wants something. She is clear when she doesn’t like something and will give you a gentle push away with her paw.
As Harper scares easily, an adult household with would be the best fit for her. She is getting more and more settled each day. Guests of the carers even got a pat within minutes of meeting.
