SAFE Rehoming
At this point in time we don’t have appropriate facilities for taking in companion animals other than cats and dogs. We recommend Porsche’s Rescue for pocket pets or Birdsville or Parrott Rescue Centre for birds.
If you are unable to approach and touch the cats/kittens, they will need to be trapped. Unfortunately as SAFE is a small orgnaisation, we do not have the resources to trap and/or transport pets.
We can sometimes help in what we consider to be the most urgent situations, however this relatively rare, so please attach a photo if this applies to your situation.
In most cases it’s likely we won’t be able to help if the cats/kittens are unapproachable and we encourage you to feed and provide some basic shelter for them until you build trust and they allow you to approach and touch them. If you can, try to desex some or all of the cats/kittens (organisations like the National Desexing Network https://ndn.org.au/ may be able to provide you with some assistance with a discount for desexing).
If you are able to continue to help these cats/kittens, we may contact you if we have space to take them in. In the meantime, as a community, we hope you are able to contribute by helping out, as the rescues are totally overwhelmed with enquiries and will not have anywhere close to the space required for all cats/kittens in need. Please continue to reach out to your network and other rescues to home or help you care for these abandoned cats/kittens.
If you find a dog wandering the street be aware that in stressful situations they may display fear aggressive behaviour. If you are at all unsure about approaching the dog and/or it appears stressed please be cautious and call the council and rangers will retrieve the dog safely, check the microchip and attempt to reunite the dog with the owner.
If the dog is safe to approach
If it is unsafe to approach the dog, call the council rangers
Please be aware, as the pet is legally owned by someone else, further paperwork will be required before intake.

Our policy is to only offer cats for adoption if they are microchipped, health checked, vaccinated, desexed and treated with preventatives & we can only help if we can cover our costs. This means that if your cat is not microchipped, desexed or up to date with vaccinations and preventatives there will be additional donations.
